Some kind of president

January 14, 2017 by Dave Knadler

President-elect Trumpachev. Every day it’s a new fucking travesty with this guy. On the day after the election I dared hope he might not be as bad as I thought. I was right: He’s much, much worse. He’s the most unpopular president-elect in history. I wonder why? He can’t articulate a single policy beyond bellicose boasting, can’t finish a declarative sentence most of the time. He kisses […]

Then there’s this:

November 19, 2016 by Dave Knadler

People in impoverished Clay County, Ky., are now worried about losing health care coverage. Turns out Trump’s victory means the state’s Republican governor is now likely to succeed in his untiring efforts to roll back Medicaid coverage. Clay County, of course, voted overwhelmingly for Trump, as the above chart shows.

I must be smarter

November 19, 2016 by Dave Knadler

I’m one of those aging white males whose job became obsolete a few years back. I come from a rural background and learned to drive a tractor before I learned to drive a car. Growing up, there were always quite a few firearms around the house, not to mention a fair amount of literature from the John Birch Society. So I suppose I could be mistaken for […]

Where credit is due

November 16, 2016 by Dave Knadler

Let the record show that last month, well before anyone seriously thought a certain sinister buffoon could win the White House, American wages were at an all-time high and still growing. Also, median household income is projected to show an all-time high in the next census report. In other news, unemployment is now under 5 percent — a bit lower than Mitt Romney predicted it would be […]

Not-so-great expectations

November 12, 2016 by Dave Knadler

El Presidente electo Trump showed a rare moment of politesse the other day, expressing respect both for President Obama and for his election opponent. It shows how low the bar is that common courtesy can elicit a glimmer of hope: Could this small man grow to fit the office? Does it still seem so likely that the big office will shrink to fit the man? We’ll see. […]

Street-fighting man

October 31, 2016 by Dave Knadler

If Donald Trump and Joe Biden really did duke it out behind the gym, who would win? Here’s Trump’s take: “Did you see where Biden wants to take me to the back of the barn? Me! I’d love that. Mr. Tough Guy. You know when he’s Mr. Tough Guy? When he’s standing behind a microphone by himself. He wants to bring me to the back of the […]

A poem for Donald

October 20, 2016 by Dave Knadler

It doesn’t matter whether Donald Trump accepts the outcome of the election. You can’t expect grace from a graceless man. The outrage about his latest stupid remark just grants him a power and significance he doesn’t deserve. The good news is this: To the extent that Trump was a force, that force is now spent. He’ll certainly lose the popular vote by a large margin and he […]
