The Liar, the Confessor, and us

January 12, 2013 by Dave Knadler

About Lance Armstrong: If you say you’re going to admit to something at a later date, isn’t that the same thing as admitting it right now? Do you really need to schedule an interview on national television to make it official?

I don’t know who’s being more oily here: Armstrong for his weaselly maneuvers to manage this disgrace, or Oprah for letting him do it. Have we really reached the place where nothing can be settled without Oprah’s say-so? Not to be all self-righteous or anything, but I think I’ve reached the place where I despise them both.

I agree with you. Armstrong is a disgrace. He needs to man up about it. Years ago, I used to really like Oprah. She used to be so down to earth, and has been really generous to a lot of people. But the last few years she seems to have developed a really high opinion of herself and it’s wearing thin.

I can see why Oprah would want to have Armstrong on her show. Her network is struggling and she needs the publicity. I don’t understand why Armstrong wants to do it, though. Nothing can help him now. He’s too damaged. He should just slink away quietly, hide under a rock, and let somebody ghost-write his memoir.

“… and let somebody ghost-write his memoir.” Good one, Joan.

I think it was all just hype coming out of OWN. The actual interview didn’t even happen until yesterday (Jan. 14) and they didn’t really know WHAT he was going to say until he said it.
