About Dave Knadler

Obscure writer. Lazy photographer. Bashful guitarist. Perhaps too fond of wine. Tireless nemesis of New York Times crosswords.

There are several legends about the grooves on the rock. The Kiowa legend involves several girls who climbed the rock to escape giant bears. The grooves are from the bears’ claws. The girls became the constellation Pleiades.

Joan, you are quick! Of course, we know that the real answer for the grooves is alien visitors, as seen in the documentary Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
