For one point, name the town and state. For an extra three points, (a) identify the mountain as it is commonly known, (b) identify the town’s main claim to fame, and (c) identify a 1961 claim to fame that the town’s chamber of commerce might not care to mention. (a, b and c are worth one point each.)
The quiz rules, such as they are, may be reviewed here.
Number Hill in Arco, Idaho
In 1961, the SL-1 reactor melted down (worlds only fatal reactor accident) and first claim to fame was being the first town with electricity generated by nuclear power.
Deb gets four points, for a total of 15.
Good Googling, Deb! The only thing I can think of to add (and it’s not part of the challenge, but I found it interesting) is that the numbers are from the graduating classes of Butte County High school. Since 1920 each class has painted its year on the rocks of the mountain.
