A minor case of iPad fatigue

March 7, 2012 by Dave Knadler

I got your iPad right here.

I sat out the iPad. Took a pass on the iPad 2. Can’t really see getting The New iPad either. I guess what I’m really waiting for the Last Best iPad, the one so perfectly grand that I won’t have to stand in line with the rest of the saps to replace it a year later.

I don’t know why this kind of thing annoys me. It just seems wrong that a consumer device can so dominate the news every time it gets an incremental upgrade. As far as I can tell, The New iPad is the same as the old one in a couple of important ways: It doesn’t confer immortality or guarantee instant weight loss.

Nevertheless, it was the top story on all the major news sites. It would have been a great time to bomb Iran, or for Rush Limbaugh to call somebody else a slut. Nobody would have noticed. Nobody in America, anyway.

No doubt I’ll own some kind of tablet someday. It’s important to keep those Chinese kids working, right? But at the moment it just seems kind of gauche.
