Everybody loves Tim. Except those who don't.
Not best for the Broncos, of course. Best for Tebow. He’s still just a kid. A very talented kid, but you don’t want to be King of the World at 24. Then there’s no place to go but down. As it is, he’s going to have a very tough time staying whole against all the forces seeking a piece of him. That’s a shame, because I think he’s probably as sincere and focused as he’s ever going to get.
Still, I’ll be rooting for the Broncos. I care little for professional football, but when the playoffs roll around I do pay some attention. My allegiance is determined in this order: First the city (if I happen to live in or near it), then the AFC, and then the West. I think that has something to do with rooting for the Seattle Seahawks when they were an AFC expansion team back in the ’70s. Perennial underdogs, and for good reason. Now that I think of it, Jim Zorn was another gifted quarterback who wore his religion on his sleeve. When he and Steve Largent were in the zone, they were a joy to watch.
So: Go Tebow. Go Broncos. Good luck. But this late and lukewarm fan won’t be too disappointed if the Patriots prevail.
