You might think I’m just screwing around in Montana, but actually I’m conducting important research. Today, for example, my brother Joe and I hiked up to Jewel Basin because we’d heard there was still enough snow up there to close some trails.
As a result of our investigations, I can report that that the snow thing is untrue. Yes, there’s an unusual amount of it remaining for the last part of August, but it’s nothing to a bull of the woods such as myself, or Joe. We laugh at snow, and inclement weather of any kind. We aren’t afraid of bears, either.
Anyway, we logged about six miles and had a good time. For a couple of mildly obese men, we’re doing OK. If you want any outdoor tips, you know who to call.
Beautiful scenery. I never thought about it before, but walking on snow has a unique sound. The nearest thing would probably be the wet sand that’s left at the edge of the ocean when the waves retreat.
We did that hike yesterday only we went the other direction. You captured the best of the hike. Especially the wild flowers! Who would have thought they would be in their glory like that at the end of August? Usually the glacier lilies are finished by mid-July. How lucky for us!
Nice, dad! Love it!
