A corporate sense of humor

April 1, 2010 by Dave Knadler

just topeka it

If only it had been "Wichita"

Think what you like about Google’s obvious plans to conquer the world, but any company with a sense of a humor cannot be seen as ominous. Or at least it can be seen as far less ominous than some other companies without a sense of humor — Citigroup, say, or Apple. How refreshing to Google “Google” today and arrive at a search page called “Topeka.”

OK, it’s a dumb stunt and it’s just one day, but I salute Google. Throw in the company’s courageous (sort of) stand with the bullies of Beijing, and it’s got me wishing I owned some stock in it. From now I on, I will use Google for all my search needs. Oh, wait; I was doing that anyway …

I enjoyed that little surprise aha. And their experiment with the Hans Christian Andersen flipbook yesterday was pretty neat as well. I love Google.
