Larry King’s crimes against television

July 20, 2007 by Dave Knadler

We turn now from fictional mysteries to a real-life one: What was Tammy Faye Messner thinking when she appeared Sunday on Larry King? (That’s Larry on the left, by the way). I know she’s not long for this world and I sympathize, but somebody might have advised her that this is the time to think about checking out with a little dignity. She’s had so little of that in her life.

During the horrific interview, Tammy Faye said she talks to God every day — almost as often as she talks to Larry King.

I didn’t know she was dying, and I’m sorry in a general sense, but Larry King is blight on popular culture, made worse when he started passing judgment on movies, made still worse when his endorsements starting turning up in movie ads.

What ever happened to private communion with the divine, beyond the ken even of talk-show hosts?

I like that line, Peter. A courageous battle with cancer seems all the more courageous if it’s done without television cameras. But that’s just me.
