People in impoverished Clay County, Ky., are now worried about losing health care coverage. Turns out Trump’s victory means the state’s Republican governor is now likely to succeed in his untiring efforts to roll back Medicaid coverage. Clay County, of course, voted overwhelmingly for Trump, as the above chart shows.
I’m one of those aging white males whose job became obsolete a few years back. I come from a rural background and learned to drive a tractor before I learned to drive a car. Growing up, there were always quite a few firearms around the house, not to mention a fair amount of literature from the John Birch Society. So I suppose I could be mistaken for […]
Let the record show that last month, well before anyone seriously thought a certain sinister buffoon could win the White House, American wages were at an all-time high and still growing. Also, median household income is projected to show an all-time high in the next census report. In other news, unemployment is now under 5 percent — a bit lower than Mitt Romney predicted it would be […]
El Presidente electo Trump showed a rare moment of politesse the other day, expressing respect both for President Obama and for his election opponent. It shows how low the bar is that common courtesy can elicit a glimmer of hope: Could this small man grow to fit the office? Does it still seem so likely that the big office will shrink to fit the man? We’ll see. […]
If Donald Trump and Joe Biden really did duke it out behind the gym, who would win? Here’s Trump’s take: “Did you see where Biden wants to take me to the back of the barn? Me! I’d love that. Mr. Tough Guy. You know when he’s Mr. Tough Guy? When he’s standing behind a microphone by himself. He wants to bring me to the back of the […]
God bless Amercia. Or, as that memorable television character Marica Brady liked to say: “Ooh, my nose.” I’m with the Romney campaign on this one. Everybody on the freaking planet now misspells the word “lose” as “loose” and nobody gives them any grief at all. But one little typo in a presidential campaign and suddenly everybody’s the spelling police. Leave Mitt Romney alone, already. Same with Obama, […]
Today I received some materials from the Romney campaign. That’s the price of registering as an independent. The package included a large photo of the candidate, standing in front of a weathered barn. There’s a tractor in the shot, and an American flag. Mitt is wearing slightly-used jeans. The implication is that the photographer happened by while the candidate was doing chores. Apparently, at Bain Capital there’s […]
